Cosmetics and well-being; A strong connection, or two unrelated words.

 A colleague asked me today to list the number of cosmetics I used before stepping out this morning. I listed 12 products, which don't include eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, or most colour cosmetics except lipstick. If you are in my inner circle, you will know that, I must be on a special night out to use most colour makeup. That means most of these cosmetics I listed were products to clean my body and make me smell nice. 

Waking up and taking a shower is an action that promotes our well-being. If you have ever been in a depressive state, however short-lived you will know that getting out of bed is so hard to do.

What am I getting at? We often think of cosmetics as beautifying our body and the cosmetic industry as frivolous, losing sight of the fact that from soaps to toothpaste to handwashing gel; these items are all crafted by cosmetic formulators and scientists, always pushing the boundaries to bring you the next best thing. The cosmetic industry plays a significant role in promoting self-confidence through skincare, makeup, and toiletries. You can enhance your natural beauty and express yourself creatively with the right beauty products. The ritual of putting on makeup can be empowering and uplifting. It's important to recognize the mental health benefits of cosmetics.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Ekua, a Pharmacist, and a Cosmetic Formulator with a passion for plant-based ingredients, currently on a Masters' course in Cosmetic Science.
